If you are reading this it means you might be considering permanent makeup and possibly you would like to know as much as possible before committing to a procedure. Cosmetic tattooing is a solution to take the everyday hassle out of applying makeup. It uses specially formulated pigments that remain in the skin for several years and need to be refreshed periodically.

Difference between a cosmetic tattoo and a regular tattoo

Semi-permanent makeup is long-lasting makeup, that involves using a device with a needle to implement the pigments into the skin. Mostly it doesn’t stay forever like a regular tattoo and it’s not as deep in the skin, it slowly fades over time.

However, clients need to be aware eyeliner tattoos could stay forever, because the skin on eyelids is very thin. Surely it will need to be refreshed with time, but keep in mind that before you decide on a bold winged eyeliner look.

What’s the process like

This is a two-step treatment, consisting of an initial procedure and then a perfecting touch-up session after 4 to 6 weeks.

First, we take your before photo, create a design and decide on the color and micro-pigmentation technique. Shortly after that, a topical anesthetic will be administered to ensure comfort, and we will start actual tattooing.

During healing, it’s normal to experience some pigment loss. This is why we have the touch-up appointment in place. The process is considered to be complete 4-6 weeks after the first touch-up.

Can I get henna (dye hair) in the eyebrow area before the tattoo?

We strongly advise don’t remove or dye any eyebrow hair before the procedure, it helps to observe natural brow shape and color. This way we will color match pigment to your eyebrow hair and skin tone.

We will remove unwanted hair that is outside of the desired eyebrow design if you wish. In the future, you will have to keep the regular maintenance of your eyebrows (like waxing, plucking).

Will my eyebrows be too dark?

We choose colors to match every customer’s natural skin and hair tone. We always suggest going with a lighter color and thinner shape on your first procedure, we can make them darker and wider if you wish at your touch-up visit.

How long term maintenance of semi-permanent makeup should look like?

Please remember about using sunscreen and moisturizing your skin. Avoid harsh peelings, acids, treatments, and lasers in the pigmented area.

Many anti-aging or acne products and services containing acids, skin lighteners, and exfoliates cause premature fading of pigment, and sometimes discoloration.

Can I get eyeliner if I have eyelash extensions?

Do not dye or curl lashes for 2 weeks before lash line enhancement tattoo. If you have individual eyelash extensions, avoid going for your next touch-up knowing you have an eyeliner or brow procedure appointment coming up. The lash extensions can be difficult to workaround for the Permanent Makeup Artist.

The numbing creams and skin wiping during the procedure remove the glue and eyelashes fall off. You can have the lash extensions reapplied after you heal which is after an eyeliner touch-up.

Botox & Fillers

Botox appointments should be timed either four weeks after the semi-permanent procedure. Most physicians are giving a 3-4 weeks ok after lip fillers injections.

It is better to avoid getting Botox before eyebrows and eyeliner tattoos because it can change the position of brows and eyes. As we know permanent makeup lasts longer than Botox, so it is wise to not have Botox before.

Is there any numbing agent used during the procedure?

Yes, we are using numbing cream before and during all procedures. However, some clients don’t need any numbing agents. Permanent makeup should never be painful for the client.

There is some discomfort associated with this procedure, and it depends on the pigmented area, amount of work, and the client’s individual pain threshold.

When I can start using mascara and eyeshadows after getting permanent eyeliner?

You will have to wait at least a week, we strongly recommend taking a break for about 10-14 days from any eye make-up. The eyelid skin is very delicate and needs special care.

When I can start using lip gloss, lip balms on my lips?

Aftercare requires waiting until outer healing ends, which is 10-14 days. Please disinfect if it’s possible or replace old lip makeup.

When I can have eyelashes extensions after permanent eyeliner?

You can’t have permanent eyeliner if you wear eyelash extensions. You just need to remove them before the procedure. You can put them back after the healing process is over.

Please keep in mind it is good to wait after the touch-up (second appointment after 4-6 weeks), plus healing time (another 4-6 weeks).

Does lip blush procedure trigger cold sores?

This procedure can trigger cold sores for those who carry the herpes simplex virus. To prevent cold sores from flaring up it is recommended to go to a doctor and get Valtrex, Zovirax, or another antiviral medication.

Physicians mostly recommend starting taking pills 3 days before the procedure and 3 days after. Note that a cold sore outbreak can alter the healed results of the tattoo.
